Librarything seems like it would be a good resource for reader's advisory. As an avid reader, I am always looking to find new authors that I might not know. One good way to find them would be to look at what else people liked who liked the same book as me. I've tried using novelist to discover new books and did not find it helpful. Librarything reminds me of the "lists" you can make at amazon, which has lead me to the discovery of good books in the past.

generators

Generators are very interesting. There are so many different kinds out there. I had an idea about them previous to this exercise but didn't know they had a name or that there were so many of them. The only thing I didn't like was that most of the web pages are covered in ads. I can understand the "engineer" should be compensated for their work, but to many can take away form the purpose of the page.

bloglines

I think RSS is a great idea! I wish I had thought of it. It is very conveniant to see everything without having to go to the individual websights.

technology

my favorite technologies are (in no particular order): indoor pluming, microderm abrasion, spell-check, the wheel, internal combustion engines, shoes, diaper genies/ disposable diapers, toothbrushes, the book, the telephone, and last but not least air conditioning.

amarylis

This is a picture of the front garden of my house, taken last month. The reason I am including it in my 23things blog is because the amarylis pictured was given to me by Geri Kelly for my birthday several years ago when I was the west area floater. They lived in a pot when we lived in an apartment and were moved to the garden when we bought the house. Aren't they pretty? Amarylis blooms are always a surprise because the plant only blooms once a year (if at all) so I never expect them. They make any dull morning brighter with their glorious colors. Thanks Geri!!

blogging in libraries

Since I'm a few weeks behind most other people, I have been able to read co-works blogs before creating my own. The most important thing I 've learned is how interresting my co-workers are. Even though we work together everyday, we don't get to know them very well. Particularly when someone works in a different department even if its in the same building. Therefore, the most important way that blogs can be used in libraries is communication between staff. The better we know each other, the more we will work as a team.

Habits of Lifelong Learners

The hardest thing for me will be not getting fustrated with technology. For example, how I just wrote a post and then somehow lost it and now I'm doing it again. I guess this is how you learn
